Quinoa Veggie Burger Recipe

Quinoa Veggie Burger It’s that time of the year again.  Time to brush off the BBQ grills and fire them up.  With Memorial Day quickly approaching I wanted to find a good veggie burger recipe for my honey, Christina, to try and hopefully like. One of my readers had sent this in to me a while back but they did not know who’s recipe it was so if anyone knows where this originated just leave a comment so I can give them some credit.

Spicy Chickpea Barley and Quinoa Veggie Burger
Ingredients

1 small sweet potato, baked
1/4 cup dry quinoa
1/4 cup dry barley
15-ounce can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
2 tablespoons parsley
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (if you do not like super spicy food you might want to tone this down a bit)
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 1/2 fresh red peppers

Directions

  1. Peel, dice, and steam the sweet potato until soft.
  2. Cook the quinoa and barley in separate pots.
  3. Remove the stem and seeds from the red peppers. Cut the whole pepper in quarters, the half a pepper in half, and roast all six pieces in the oven or on the grill.
  4. While the grains and pepper are cooking, in a food processor, combine garbanzo beans, sweet potato, parsley, cayenne pepper, cumin, salt and pepper, flour, and one tablespoon oil.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix the bean mixture with the quinoa and barley.
  6. Using hands, form into six patties.
  7. Heat the remaining tablespoon of oil in a pan on medium heat. Brown both sides of each burger. Serve on a bun with melted cheese (optional) and a quarter of the roasted pepper.

Shakeology Cleanse

Shakeology

So I did the Shakeology Cleanse and I wanted to share my results and the way I felt while doing it for 3 days.  First off I do want to say that I did not do the Shakeology Cleanse to lose weight but I did lose six pounds in the 3 days that I did it.  I wanted to get the most nutrient dense calories I could get and Shakeology did that for me.  Weight loss was just a byproduct of what I wanted to do.  Even though I am not trying to lose weight it is good to mix things up every now and again.  I feel I did get rid if some unwanted toxins and undigested foods and all in all this increased my energy levels.

I followed the cleanse to a “T” and I did not use any fruit in my Shakeology drink.  Just water or ice all 9 times. I was hungry at the end of the first day but that went away into the second day.  I did not feel the need to snack in between but I am sure many people will especially if your eating habits have not been so good up to this point. On the third day I was pleasantly surprised that I had so much energy on such few calories.  I wasn’t working out too hard as this was a recovery week for me.

I would definitely recommend the Shakeology Cleanse to all as well as drinking Shakeology every day after the cleanse is over.  You just can not find nutrition like this all in one place.  If you are getting ready to start  the P90X exercise program or any other Beachbody program, the Shakeology Cleanse will get you off and running and started right.

drink your waterTony Horton said in best in one of the P90X workouts, “Drink your water people”. I think this is a classic P90X Tony Horton quote that might be often overlooked. Are you getting enough water?  How do you know?  Every second of every minute of every day our body is experiencing chemical reactions where water is the common ingredient.  if your not getting enough then it is going to have an impact on these processes.

Water makes up 60% to 70% of your body so how much do you need in a given day?  Well, without getting into a mathematical calculation of how much fluids go how vs. how many come in, let’s just try and keep it simple for arguments sake. Some people say to drink 8- 8oz glasses of water a day and you should be ok.  Others say drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day. Another good thing to look at is your urine.  You want your urine to be colorless to slightly yellow.  If you fall into this category then you are most likely properly hydrated.

A couple of things you need to take into consideration that could affect your water intake are:

Exercise- If you exercise you are going to need more water.  If you exercise intensely then you are going to need even more water.  It is a good idea to try and replace some of the fluids lost while you are working out and to continue hydrating even when you are finished working out.

Where You Live- Someone such as myself that lives in Michigan is going to need less water than someone who lives in Arizona where it is hot all the time. Also, if you live in higher altitudes you make be urinating more and breathing harder which will cause you to need more water.

Health Conditions- Are you vomiting?  Have a fever? Got diarrhea? UTI?  In all of these cases you are going to need more water.  Gatorade or Pedialite might even be better but if you are sick consult with your doctor to see what will work best for you.  The last thing you want is to end up in the hospital with an I.V because you were dehydrated.

Pregnant/Breast Feeding- If this is you then you are going to need more fluids. Especially if you are breastfeeding. If you are exercising, trying to lose that baby weight and breastfeeding then you are really going to need to watch your fluid intake. (Just something to think about)

Also remember that you get about 20% of your fluids from food.  Watermelon and tomatoes are about 90% water but it is always a good idea to keep some water close at hand.  Milk and juice are mostly water as well.  There is also coffee, tea, beer, wine etc but you should stick to the water since it has no calories and it is pretty cheap.

Don’t wait until you are thirsty to get you water.  By then you are most likely already a bit dehydrated.  Drink your water before meals, during meals and after meals.  Make it a habit. Make staying hydrated a priority in your life and your body will thank you.

If you are doing P90X and want some simple sheets to keep track of everything you eat including your water then just download the P90X meal tracker sheets.  These make eating easy while doing P90X.  Eat it then check it off the list.

Buy Shakeology Cheap

Buy ShakeologyI have see a lot of questions on how to buy Shakeology cheap and the one thing I want to say is there is no “cheap”.  You can get Shakeology for a little less expensive but for this kind of quality you are not going to find “cheap”.  Have you ever heard the old saying “you get what you pay for?”. Of course you have. Everyone has heard that saying before and the same thing applies here when trying to buy Shakeology cheap.  I am not going to go over why Shakeology is such a bargain price at $119.95 for 30 servings again.  You can check out my post “Buy Shakeology- Great Price and Great for you” and there you will see what it would cost you to try and piece together Shakeology at your local health food store.  You can also check out a video on that page.

What I want to show you today is how to get Shakeology at the best possible price or for you bargain hunters, how to buy Shakeology cheap.

So lets analyze this.

Retail Cost Per Month:

$119.95 Base Price

$7.20   Tax (6%)

$8.00 Shipping

—————————————-

$135.15 Total

$127.15 on Home Direct every month.  (Shipping is free with Home Direct)

Coaches Cost Per Month:

$89.96 Base Price

$5.40 Tax (6%)

$7.20 Shipping

————————————-

$102.56 Total

$95.36 on Home Direct every month.  (Shipping is free with Home Direct)

So…. to try Shakeology for a month 1 time would cost you  $135.15

At the coach price on Home Direct you would pay                  $95.36

Savings of:                                                                          $39.79 per month

That is $3.20 a serving. You can’t even get a happy meal for that price.

Becoming a coach will cost $14.95 per month for your website so you actually save $24.84 every month. This works out to $298.08 a year.  Now that is a real savings.  Not to mention the opportunity you now have.  Lets say you are mixing up some Shakeology at work and one of your co-workers comes up to you and says “Hey Bob, whatcha drinkin?”  You reply “It’s Shakeology, my healthiest meal of the day”. Co-worker says “Where can I get some?”  You say “Just head on over to my Shakeology site and place your order”.  You just helped someone on their way to a healthier lifestyle and made a few bucks in the process.  Does it get any better than that?  Plus you are getting Shakeology at the best possible price.

So you want to try Shakeology but you think it might be a bit expensive?  It’s funny since those who drink it think the price is too low.  Let’s think about this for a second.  What do you spend $4 bucks on a day.  Your lunch, an extra large latte, a martini(even during happy hour), a Big Mac meal, a pack of cigarettes, a car wash, a 12inch sub from Subway, a “hot and ready” from Little Caesars, a small bucket of golf balls, some new mascara, a number 6 at Wendy’s and the list could go on an on and on and on.  Now you have the option to put something into your body that is packed with nutrition and all you have to do is just replace one of those other things with Shakeology. Heck, you might even save money in the process.

If you tried to put all 70 of Shakeology’s ingredients together yourself you would spend a small fortune every month.  I have to say thanks to fellow Beachbody coach Blake Warrington who actually did a little experiment and tried to do just that.  He wanted to see how much it would cost if he went to the health food store and tried to put together Shakeology ingredient by ingredient. Below is what he discovered.

Do you really want to spend $483 bucks on this stuff?  Yeah, I know, me either. That’s why Shakeology is the best solution and will be your healthiest meal of the day.
