Am I Too Old for Shaun T’s Insanity?

Am I too old for Shaun T’s Insanity? Well this is a loaded question and I am sure you will get 5 different answers if you ask 5 different people. If you ask me I am going to say that I don’t think you are too old to do anything you put your mind to. yes, I know I am only 39 years old and I am really hoping that my attitude does not change when i am 79.  The one caveat I would like to include would be to go and see your doctor and get a physical and the green light before starting Insanity. Insanity is definitely extreme cardio and will definitely get your heart pumping.  On that note, if you want to get in some awesome cardio shape then Insanity is for you. All you need is “you” and the will power to get through these work outs for the next 60 days. Yes, I did Insanity and I am 39 but take a look at Teresa’s story below and see what a little determination will get you. Keep in mind she was 50 when she did her first round of Insanity. Yes the big 5-0. Whether you think you CAN or you CAN’T, you are usually right. Don’t let a little thing like someone saying “Insanity is too hard” stop you. So are you too old for Shaun T’s Insanity????  Well, I say HELL NO!!!

Jeff Ochoa and Mom So my mom decided to stop by today so I could help her upload some pictures from my brother’s wedding to have them printed.  What I didn’t expect expect was that she was going to say YES when I asked her to do Insanity Pure Cardio with me.  First we went through the pictures she wanted to have printed and uploaded them to Walgreen.  Then I said, “Why don’t you do Pure Cardio with me?” My mom said,”I already worked out today.”  I told her two a days never hurt anyone.  I am sure she was tired as she already did about 3 miles on the tread mill but that didn’t stop her.  I said, “Come onnnnnnnn” and she gave in and said OK.  Pure cardio is only about 45 minutes long so that is a good thing.  Now my mom has dropped about 20 pounds since the beginning of the year and she is in pretty good shape but I didn’t know how she was going to react to Shaun T’s Insanity. (Insanity is pretty tough.)  Well let me tell you, she did it like a pro.  She only had to take a couple breaks and I was definitely expecting her to take a bunch more but I was wrong.  She kicked butt.  I have been trying to get her to do some P90X work outs with me but she has always thought they were too hard.  They are hard, I agree, but you do what you can and modify if you have too.  This is how you get better.  All I can say is getting through Pure Cardio with your AARP card is something everyone should strive for. This is the definition of role model.  Let it be said….exercise is the fountain of youth. Use it or lose it.

Insanity: The Asylum Review

Insanity Asylum Insanity: The Asylum review.  Well I just finished up my 30 days with Insanity: The Asylum with Shaun T and I want to put my thoughts down in writing about this awesome work out program before I have the chance to forget anything.  First off, I want to say that I really have never done any work outs like Asylum before.  I did Shaun T’s Insanity and Insanity prepared me for Asylum but it was still tough.  This was the first time I have ever used an agility ladder or resistance bands and let me tell you, it was challenging and a lot of fun.  Imagine having resistance bands around your ankles and wrists. Now get in a plank position, jump up and do sort of a plyo push up while spreading your legs and arms with the bands around them.  Tough move and very challenging but that is what I purchased Asylum.

First off I want to say that if this is your first work out program then Asylum is not the place to start. You will get frustrated and be risking injury.  Now that I have that out of the way, if you have just completed P90X or Insanity or are already in great shape then Asylum will make you better. If you play any kind of sport Asylum will make you better.  If it doesn’t, send it back and get your money back. (Really!)  If you like extreme cardio with resistance then you will like Insanity: The Asylum.  One of the things that I really like about Asylum is that this was pretty much a whole new set of moves for me.  I have done P90X, Insanity, RevAbs and some P90X One on Ones but this Asylum was totally new.

You will work work every muscle in your body while doing Asylum. Prior to doing Asylum I was doing and Insanity, P90X and P90X One on One hybrid and when I started Asylum I was still sore.  It really hit some new muscles and worked them in a very different way. If you want to get better do something you haven’t done before.  I am partial to P90X but I still liked Asylum. Asylum was the perfect length at 30 days and now I can do an Asylum/P90X hybrid.  Personally, I do not like 6 days of extreme cardio but when I mix it in with P90X I think it will be perfect.

I am going to take a 3 day rest before I start the P90X/Asylum hybrid but I wanted to to something short today so I did P90X Ab Ripper X.  I could not believe how easy it was.  I though for sure that it was going to be a little harder considering that I haven’t done it in a month. Boy was I wrong.  This just tells me that Asylum really worked my core and I can feel it too. I definitely feel stronger in my core.  My jumps are longer, my stamina is better, my agility is better and I know I accomplished something that the masses simply will not be able to do. So I guess I am chalking one up in the win column for me.

Insanity: The Asylum Game Day

Ok, so the only work out I haven’t talked about yet in Insanity: The Asylum is Game Day.  Let me just say that Shaun T really did put together a killer program but Game Day is the icing on the cake. PHEEWWWWWW!!!!  Tough, Tough, Tough.  A little basketball, speed skating, wrestling, surfing (yep surfing), swimming, baseball, swimming, running, sprinting, jumping and I am sure I am missing something but this is an awesome 60 minute work out.  If you are not tired after this then you must be super human. (LOL)  Let me tell you this, if you have done Insanity and P90X you will still be in for a surprise with all of the Asylum work outs especially Game Day.  They are tough and different and I don’t know about you but I like different, as it is fun to mix things up.

Asylum comes with a hybrid work out of Asylum/P90X and Asylum/Insanity and I am looking forward to doing the Asylum/P90X hybrid when I am finished with this 30 days of Insanity: The Asylum.  I am liking this Asylum but I am missing my resistance P90X work outs.  I don’t think I would have enough energy if I tried to complete a P90X work out before doing Asylum.

Once again, if you play any kind of sport Asylum will take you to that next level and make you better. If you are looking for an awesome preseason work out then look no further, but be ready because these work outs will test you. Are you ready to enter The Asylum???

Insanity: The Asylum Day 4 Vertical Plyo

Insanity Asylum Vertical PlyoOk, day 4 with Shaun T and Insanity: The Asylum is Vertical Plyo. Yep, you guessed it. Jumping and more jumping. Insanity had me prepared for this work out but it was still super tough.  I think this is the work out that made my shins sore but I can’t be positive because it also could have been any of the previous work outs. Shaun T really out did himself this time with this Asylum work out.  I will say it again, it is tough and it is different and Asylum is not the place to start if you are just beginning.  Asylum is definitely one of those work outs that you have to work your way up to.

Do you like jumping rope?  How about jumping rope on one leg? Well you better get used to it because that is just some of what you will get with Vertical Plyo in the Asylum.  How about push ups with your bands around your hands and legs and then you have to spread both during the push up? Yes, Asylum is tough but it will make you better.  If you play any sport I would highly recommend this work out.  I can almost guarantee you will see a benefit and if you don’t just send it back. (That’s how confident Beachbody is.)
