14 Reasons to take Advantage of a Home Workout

If you can work out at the gym then why not, right? The sad reality however is that, not everybody has the luxury of time to go out of the house just to go the gym. On the other hand, working out at home actually has a lot of advantages. Not being able to exercise at a regular gym should not stop you from achieving your health goals. In fact, you can be anywhere and still enjoy the benefits of exercise just as much at the gym. Besides, when you’re at home, you do not have to wait in line to use the equipment or to run on the treadmill. It can sometimes also be unhygienic how others would sweat on the gym equipment and not wipe them down before you take your turn.

So here’s 14 good reasons why you should be taking advantage of a home workout instead of the gym:

  • Wearing anything you want

You can’t be as comfortable at home as when you are at the gym especially in terms of what you wear. Of course at the gym, you have to look good not only for yourself but for everyone else around you. But at home, you can wear your favorite sports bra, pajamas, or cropped top without worrying about how you look. Rock that neon leggings and tie your hair like you don’t care. You know how that old cotton shirt feels good on you even if it’s already got some holes on them? You can be fresh from the shower without putting anything on your face and lips and still be ready to hit that funky home exercise video. Privacy is one of the best advantages that you can get from working out at home. And you don’t even have to spend on spandex and other exercise apparel if you don’t want to.

  • Working out any time of the day or night

Flexibility is another advantage that working out at home can offer you. This is especially true when you also work at home and sometimes need to adjust your schedule depending on your work flow. You can push your exercise schedule later in the day and never have to miss a session like you sometimes do in the gym. If you have kids, you can also exercise during their nap time or exercise with them for some quality family time. Exercising in chunks of 15 to 30 minutes spread throughout the day will also keep you active and will help you lose weight through constant activity. It makes it more achievable this way when you chunk it up and go with the flow of everything else that you need to do and finish at home.

  • Starting your workout as soon as you’re awake

When you are a morning person, you tend to be very energetic as soon as you wake up. And yes, as soon as you roll out of bed, you will want some of that action. Now, the thing about a home workout is that you can do it right there and then. The best thing about working out in the morning is that you will feel energized throughout the day like you can conquer anything. It also sets the mood for healthy eating because you know you worked hard earlier and you do not want to just put that to waste by eating too much. Likewise, if you are looking at losing some pounds, early morning home workouts sets your metabolism on high gear for the rest of the day. So whether it’s some advanced yoga, hip hop zumba, or high intensity interval training, it is worth waking up to each morning.

  • Tuning in to your kind of music at any volume

Yeah you can have your earbuds at the gym but they can keep falling off and there are exercise routines where they just need to be taken off. At home though, you can have surround sound in any part of the house that you go to so there is no need for that. Moreover, there’s nothing like pumping to loud volumes as you keep up with the beat at home. In case you do not want it too loud, you can turn the volume down without having to worry that you will overhear the loud rock music at the gym. You also do not have to put up with having to listen to music at the gym that is not really your kind of beat or what motivates you to finish that rep. At the comforts of your own home, you can also just turn on the TV for your favorite workout video. While exercising, you can likewise listen to a podcast or an audiobook. You will see how a home workout gives you the freedom and the privacy to do anything you want while you exercise.

  • Getting intimate with your personal trainer

When you work out at home, you can have a private relationship with your personal trainer without having to compete with everyone else around you for attention. Talk about Tony Horton telling you to just “bring it” or Shaun T coaxing you to “dig deeper.” You can’t help but say yes and take your workout to the next level. Sagi Kalev can command you to “beast up” and you would know exactly what to do. Your Beachbody Super Trainers are always gonna be there for you any time you need them and any day you need that extra push. Autumn Calabrese has got your back and she believes in you when she says that for 60 seconds, you can do just about anything. Whatever happens between you and your trainers stay with you in the four corners of your home.

  • Making all the grunts and funny faces

Sometimes, it can be embarrassing to go all out at the gym. Aside from the challenging workouts, you also have to deal with controlling the sounds that you make while lifting weights or making maximum effort or simply letting it all out. With those awkward grunts is a guaranteed funny face that go with it that you might not be that comfortable showing other people at the gym. Well, guess what? There will be none of that when you work out at home. You can push yourself to the limit and make all the grunts necessary. It will be such a relief to just shout it out. After finishing a particular routine, you can let out a triumphant yell and nobody would mind. Sagi Kalev never holds back so neither should you. It’s really the same thing with faces that you make as you give it your all-out effort. Set yourself free from the embarrassment and make all the funny faces necessary to achieve your fitness goals.

  • Turning your home into a discotheque

How free are you to dance at the gym? Even in a zumba class, you won’t be as free to dance your way into fitness than when you are at home. Practice those killer moves all you want under the mirror ball and add some laser lights for maximum effect. You can do this as an all-out workout following a video series or simply turning on your Spotify for that non-stop dance party. Meanwhile, you can mix dancing with your other exercise routines to spice it up and make your dance moves as your rest periods. You can even sing along to your favorite tunes and sing your heart out as you sweat. Your home workout, your rules so be free to dance towards your body goals. It is really more enjoyable this way as dancing enhances the health of your whole body as well as puts the life back into your spirit. Express yourself through dance and make it a liberating experience in the comforts of your own home.

  • Watching your muscles work for that mind-muscle connection

When you are not that confident yet with your body, you do everything to hide them at the gym, from wearing big shirts to adding more layers of clothing. Thing is, you won’t be able to see how your muscles are working as you exercise those certain areas. That mind-muscle connection is important as it one of the most effective ways by which you can avail of the full benefits of your workout. Seeing how your muscles work strengthens that connection. However at the gym, you can’t just show off your tummy when you’re just beginning to work on that six-pack abs. But at home, you can just wear a sports bra and see more of your muscles working without thinking about who will see it. This will allow you more focus on your movements and engaging your muscles the right way.

  • Protecting yourself from exposure to germs

It cannot be denied that at the gym, you can get exposed to more germs considering all the people who go in and out 24/7. And you know how it is when using gym equipment especially when others might not be that religious in wiping them off as courtesy to the next user. With flu being just around the corner, you certainly have more peace of mind working out at home and dealing with household germs at the most. After you sweat it out, you can then clean up all you want, your way. If you have your own pool, then you get to swim more hygienically as well. Think about it, imagine all the germs, and make a choice.

  • Letting it all out in private

Life has its ups and downs and when you workout, your emotions and hormones can get stirred up in one crying spree. And this is actually fine as being able to express your emotions this way liberates the feelings that sometimes get bottled up inside. It is very cleansing and you feel very light-hearted afterwards. Certainly, this is not an opportunity that working out at the gym can provide you with. But when it hits you at home, you can simply cry away and become a renewed person afterwards. No one will judge you and you can just let the wave of emotions wash you over and make you feel whole again. You are bound to feel better after and able to think about how to deal with your situation proactively. Now, isn’t that worth the home workout?

  • Using more of your body to workout

One of the reasons why you go to the gym to workout is to be able to use all those fancy equipment that they offer. The good news is that, you don’t really need all that just so you can optimize the benefits of exercise on your body. In fact, challenging bodyweight workouts can get you in shape in the same way. Using your bodyweight helps to improve your flexibility, balance, and strength without the need for extra machinery. Each part of your body from your shoulders, chest, and legs can get stronger using only body resistance. You also do not have to have all the equipment at home if you do want some gears as you exercise. Your living room floor can become your DIY gym. Most of the time, you will only need a bench and some hand weights with different weights levels and you’re good to go. A lifting bar and some free weight plates are likewise recommended.

  • Being able to rest comfortably

Consistent workout is no joke and most of the time, being able to rest and recover properly is key to making your daily exercise effective. After completing your routine, you would just love to sprawl on the floor and take a breather. It will energize you to keep going and move forward to your next routine. You cannot enjoy the same luxury at the gym when you also have to think about how clean the floors are, your body position, and how your time is limited. Meanwhile at home, you can rest very comfortably and lie there for a while like you just don’t care. Take your time and make your home workout a truly relaxing one.

  • Enjoying an all-season schedule

There will be days when the gym will be closed for some reason including a snowstorm.
